14 Mile Beach Camp

14 Mile is a medium-sized, beachside campground located adjacent to the recreation zone of Ningaloo Marine Park. With direct 4WD access to the shoreline, it’s a popular spot for launching small boats or kayaks straight from the sand.

14 Mile Beach Camp is a remote, off-grid beachfront campground near Coral Bay with white sand, turquoise water, big skies and epic sunsets. It’s dog-friendly (on lead) and well-priced, but you need to arrive prepared because there are no toilets, showers, or water on site.

What Visitors Say About 14 Mile Beach Camp

Visitors rave about the water colour and the beach itself, often calling it one of the best coastal camps in WA. Many highlight warm swims, beautiful sunsets, and clear night skies. Several reviews mention reef close to shore and good fishing, with people enjoying everything from snorkelling and kayaking to kitesurfing and squid fishing.

It’s properly off-grid. Campers consistently mention:

  • no toilets or ablutions
  • no water
  • bringing a chemical or portable toilet and being fully self-contained
  • nearby dump point and rubbish disposal (but still no water for rinsing)

Wind is the main trade-off. Beachfront sites can be exposed, and multiple visitors recommend picking a spot one row back or behind dunes for shelter. The dunes and vegetation can also add privacy, especially compared to the beachline sites that sit closer together.

The drive in gets a lot of attention. It’s commonly described as a rough mix of corrugations, stones and soft sand, with wildlife and cattle on the track. The most repeated tips are:

  • 4WD is the safer choice
  • lower tyre pressures
  • slow and steady, especially when towing

Booking and site management comes up too. Payment is online, and while some mention friendly caretakers, others note that nobody checked bookings during their stay. A few reviews also mention occasional issues caused by previous campers (odours from poor toilet practices, and wildlife like crabs at night and the occasional mouse).

Overall, visitors love it for the scenery and the “switch off” factor, and most of the advice centres on choosing the right site for wind protection and coming fully prepared for a no-facilities stay.
